kids photography
A kids’ photo shoot can either be a photographer’s hell or heaven! The subjects are so naïve and natural that asking them to pose can be quite difficult. The photographer has to be alert all the time to capture the required shots as you never know when the child is going to give you the perfect expression! In most photo shoots involving children I have found it helpful to spend some time with them before the actual shoot. It helps to invest some time in an ice breaker session to make them comfortable in the studio and become their friends, rather than just someone clicking their pictures.
As ever, even in kids’ photo shoots it is important to keep the commercial angle in mind, although the actual shoot should be made fun and enjoyable for the children. Capturing the right expression, while still keeping the photoshoot interesting for the children without putting any pressure on them, is the challenge. If handled well, kids’ photo shoots can be quite fun for both the subjects and the photographer.
