The challenge of bringing the beauty of life without colours is an art on its own. Black & White photography has tremendous aesthetic and retro appeal that cannot be compensated in any measure by colours. It is the total play of lights and shadows, to suit the feel of the photographer and the shoot. It has considerable drama to it, being devoid of colours. Understanding the grey tones, shades, lighting etc and using it to the best effect is the biggest task at hand here.
